Building Collapse Killing 2 in Lagos Island
Two persons have been confirmed dead and 14 others injured in a building collapse at Daddy Alaja Street, Oke Arin on Lagos Island.
The two dead persons, a man and a woman, have been pulled out from the debris of the collapsed three-storey building while 14 others have been rescued alive from the collapsed building by emergency respondents.
Sources reveal that the incident happened in the early hours of the morning around 7.30am, at Daddy
Alaja Street, Oke Arin on Lagos Island.
The identities of the two dead persons, a man and a woman, who were pulled out of the debris of the collapsed three-storey building could not be confirmed.
It has also been confirmed that the collapsed building which houses many occupants was undergoing renovation when the unfortunate incident happened.
Sources also revealed that the victims of the collapsed building who were rescued alive were being treated at the scene of the incident, while those with more serious injuries were taken to the General Hospital on Lagos Island.
Members of the rescue team available at the scene of the incident include the men and officials from LASEMA, NEMA, Fire Service and the Police Force.
The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole has confirmed the incident. He however could not confirm the number of casualties as at the time of filing this report.
Its been reported that three buildings have collapsed so far in Ilasamaja, Ebute-Metta and on Lagos Island in the last three months, in which five lives have been lost while more than 40 persons with various degrees of injuries have been rescued.
