SUNDAY OLISEH (NIGERIA COACH) TOOK TO TWITTER TO ANNOUNCE RESIGNATION
Sunday Oliseh’s period as Nigeria national team coach ended in acrimony on Friday as the country’s football icon resigned amid allegations of unpaid wages and contract violations.
Oliseh, capped 54 times by Nigeria during a distinguished playing career, became coach of the Super Eagles in July 2015. But his tenure has been pockmarked by problems, including the retirement from international football in October 2015 of Vincent Enyeama, the team’s goalkeeper and best player, after Oliseh stripped him of the captaincy.
Nigeria plays two vital Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Egypt in less than 30 days’ time.
Oliseh took to Twitter to announce the news of his resignation on Friday morning, and has changed his profile on Twitter to read “Ex-Chief Coach, Super Eagles.”
Oliseh was warned over his conduct earlier in February by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) after he called critics of the Super Eagles “insane” in a bizarre video rant, after which he apologized, again via Twitter.
