LIVES LOST IN FUEL TANKER EXPLOSION IN IKORODU
Five people have allegedly burnt to death after a fuel-carrying tanker exploded due to faulty breaks in Ikorudu, Thisdayreported.
The tanker which belongs to Forte Oil, was delivering petrol to filling stations when the driver lost control and went into a an abattoir. The tanker is believed to have had faulty breaks and the therefore the driver was not able to control the heavy vehicle.
The heavy vehicle exploded on impact and a fire quickly spread around the abattoir, burning both animals and humans alive before they could make an escape.
Witnesses called the fire department who only arrived an hour later, by then many things were already destroyed. Crowds were fuming with anger and had initially refused the service entry but allowed them to extinguish the damage.
Burned corpses were sent to the morgue and commercial activities have resumed since the explosion.
